Barrow AFC players have delivered donations to help provide 235 meals for the local community through Barrow Foodbank. Scott Smith, Ben Winterbottom and Innes Cameron visited the facility on Friday, which coincided with National Food Bank Day.

The players received a tour from Project Manager Matthew Burden. The Barrow AFC Foundation joined local supermarkets Co-op on Plymouth Street, Tesco Express on Walney and Asda Barrow in contributing to the donation effort.

Matthew Burden showed the Barrow AFC squad members around the operation that has supported Furness area households for 15 years. The tour highlighted specific sections dedicated to different types of essential items. "The tour highlighted sections for toiletries, pet food, small kitchen appliances and crates for families of three to four people," Burden explained. The foodbank currently supports approximately 7,500 households across the region, providing vital assistance beyond just food supplies.

This community work comes as Barrow prepare for their next National League fixture. The team currently sits 18th in the table with 5 points from six matches, recording one win, two draws and three losses. Their recent form reads WDLDL, and they've scored 8 goals while conceding 9 for a -1 goal difference.

The off-field community engagement provides a positive story during what has been a challenging start to the campaign. Adam Murray's side find themselves 11 points behind league leaders Boreham Wood after the opening weeks. Such community initiatives demonstrate the club's commitment to the local area regardless of on-pitch results. The players involved represent different parts of the squad, with goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom, midfielder Scott Smith and forward Innes Cameron all participating in the visit.

Barrow's involvement with local causes extends beyond this single event, with the club foundation regularly engaging in community projects. The foodbank donation represents tangible support for an organization that has become increasingly important during economic pressures affecting many families. The 235 meals provided through this initiative will make a direct difference to people struggling in the Furness area.

Attention now returns to football matters as Barrow prepare for their upcoming match. Their next fixture sees them travel to face Worthing on September 12th. Worthing currently occupy 16th position in the National League table, setting up what could be an important early-season encounter for both clubs. The team will be looking to build momentum after a mixed start to the campaign. With several new players still settling into the squad, community activities like the foodbank visit can help strengthen bonds within the group. The club's involvement with local organizations remains a consistent feature throughout the season, regardless of results on the pitch. Barrow face Worthing away on September 12th in their next National League match.
