Barrow AFC midfielder Isaac Marriott has issued a clear demand for victories after another frustrating result on the road. The 26-year-old spoke following a 1-1 Bank Holiday Monday draw away to Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough, a result that leaves Adam Murray's side 23rd in the National League with just two points from five games.
Marriott's message was blunt. "We need to start winning that’s the bottom line," he said. The club's difficult start to the 2026-27 campaign sees them with a record of zero wins, two draws, and three losses. They have scored five goals but conceded nine, leaving them with a negative four goal difference and already eleven points adrift of leaders Boreham Wood.
The match followed a familiar pattern for Barrow this season. Marriott felt the team began strongly and were the dominant force in the first half after taking an early lead. "We started the game really well I thought, you know going 1-0 up and then kicking on from that, trying to get a second," he explained. "I thought the first part of the first half we were dominant."
However, failing to secure that key second goal proved costly. Kidderminster grew back into the contest, and the game shifted when George Walker was forced off following a bad tackle. Playing with ten men, Barrow's organisation faltered for a moment, allowing a cross and a free header for the equaliser. Marriott acknowledged it was a chance they should have prevented, calling it "frustrating" as it was one of the home side's few opportunities.
The midfielder's insistence on turning performances into points is rooted in the team's current league predicament. With time already a factor, he stressed the collective responsibility. "Time is not there for us, we have to start winning games and we know that, so we’ll take the point, but we need to start winning," Marriott stated.
He believes the quality within the squad is not in question. His full quote to the NW Mail outlined this belief. "We’re good enough, we know we are good enough we have just got to turn that mindset, which we have all got, into winning football games again, because that’s what this club deserves," Marriott said. He added that the hard work from the players is evident in each performance, but they are not getting the rewards their efforts warrant.
The focus now shifts immediately to the next fixture, which presents another stern test. Barrow return to Holker Street this Saturday to face Solihull Moors. It is a vital opportunity to build on the point gained at Kidderminster and finally secure a first league win of the season in front of their own supporters.
Looking further ahead, the schedule does not get easier. After Solihull, Barrow are set to host Sutton United on September 5th. Sutton currently sit second in the table, making it a formidable challenge. Converting periods of dominance into goals and ultimately victories is the clear task. The defensive solidity will also need to improve to stop conceding soft goals at key moments. Marriott's comments suggest the belief is there, but it must now translate into results on the pitch. The team's recent form reads DLDLL, a sequence they are desperate to break.
Adam Murray and his coaching staff will be working on the training ground to address these issues before Saturday's key home game. The players understand the urgency, as articulated by Marriott. The next match against Solihull Moors kicks off at 3pm on Saturday at Holker Street.
