Barrow complete ninth summer signing with Paul Kalambayi
Barrow have strengthened their defensive options with the signing of Paul Kalambayi from Dagenham & Redbridge. The 26-year-old becomes the Bluebirds' ninth summer arrival as they look to rebuild ahead of the new League Two season. Kalambayi, who began his career at AFC Wimbledon, spent two seasons with the Daggers before joining Barrow on a permanent deal.
Who is Paul Kalambayi?
Kalambayi started his professional career at AFC Wimbledon, making 88 appearances in League One and League Two over eight seasons. He joined Dagenham & Redbridge in June 2024 and spent the first half of last season on loan at Kidderminster Harriers, where he played under current Barrow manager Adam Murray. The Harriers went on to win promotion via the play-offs after Kalambayi's loan spell ended.
Why this signing matters for Barrow
Assistant boss Andy Taylor believes Kalambayi's style of play fits perfectly with the team's tactics. "PK's game suits the way that we want to play," Taylor said. "He's a really physical, aggressive, ball-winning defender." Kalambayi is also familiar with Murray's system, having worked with him at Kidderminster, which should help him settle quickly at Barrow.
What comes next for Barrow?
Kalambayi is the second Barrow signing this summer to have played for Kidderminster, following defender George Walker. The Bluebirds have also brought in strikers Alex Reid and Olly Crankshaw, full-backs Marcel Oakley and Danny Amos, defenders Kennedy Digie and Xavier Benjamin, and midfielder Isaac Marriott. With the team finishing 24th in League Two last season, scoring 45 goals and conceding 78, new signings like Kalambayi will be crucial as they aim to improve their defensive record.
