Barrow AFC chairman Paul Hornby admitted former CEO Iain Wood had to go. Hornby spoke to BBC Radio Cumbria about the decision.
What happened?
Wood moved up from Sporting Director to CEO but his position became untenable. Hornby said: “I’m not going to sit here and dis Iain Wood, he worked extremely hard.”
Why it matters for Barrow
The club appeared to back Wood at a Q&A evening, but Hornby had already decided on a change. He said: “If you go back to that public backing at that Q&A I remember it vividly.”
What comes next?
Hornby is adamant that the club will not look to appoint a new CEO. He said: “No, not at all. I think one thing if you look at the bigger picture, we lost everything that made Barrow great.” The club's current standing is 24th in League Two, with 36 points from 46 games, and a recent form of LLLWL. | Category | Value | | --- | --- | | League standing | 24th | | Points | 36 | | Recent form | LLLWL | | Goals scored | 45 | | Goals conceded | 78 | | Goal difference | -33 | Hornby wants to restore the club's identity and connection with the community. He said: “We’ve got to get a steer on this. We’ve got to get the connection back.” The club's last result was a 1-2 loss to Newport County on 2026-05-02. Hornby's comments come as the club looks to rebuild after a tough season, with 51 points behind leaders Bromley.
