Barrow AFC's winless start to the National League season continued with a 1-1 draw away at Kidderminster Harriers. Manager Adam Murray returned to his former club and saw his current side drop more points from a winning position, leaving them 23rd in the table with just two points from five matches.
Innes Cameron gave the visitors the lead with a 15th-minute header at Aggborough Stadium. Kidderminster's Lewis Walker equalised just before the interval, ensuring the points were shared. The result means Barrow have now taken only two points from the opening month of the campaign, scoring five goals but conceding nine for a minus-four goal difference.
Adam Murray was critical of the physical approach from the home side, particularly a first-half challenge that forced Olly Crankshaw off injured. He argued the nature of the tackles warranted more than the yellow cards shown, pointing to visible damage like cracked shinpads. "It was a good game for both teams, with both clubs in totally different moments of their journey," Murray said.
The manager also addressed the abuse he has faced online, calling it disgraceful. "You don’t get away with it in any other walk of life apart from football," he stated, demanding accountability. During the match, some home fans directed chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' towards him.
The single point does little to improve Barrow's precarious early-season position. They remain deep in the relegation zone, 11 points behind the early pace set by league leaders Boreham Wood. Their recent form reads DLDLL.
This draw finally ended a run of consecutive defeats, but the inability to hold onto a lead over the recent bank holiday weekend has cost the team five valuable points. Turning these narrow margins into wins is now the immediate challenge for Murray and his squad.
