Barrow boss Adam Murray has issued a stark warning to players he believes are still carrying a losing mentality from last season, insisting some will have to leave the club if they cannot change their outlook. Speaking after back-to-back opening defeats to Hartlepool United and Hornchurch, Murray was blunt when discussing the divide between his new signings and those retained from Barrow's dismal relegation campaign, in which the club cycled through five managers. Barrow visit fellow relegated side Harrogate on Saturday searching for their first win this campaign. 'I don't think the game last season (Harrogate) makes any difference,' Murray said. 'I think it's a tough one because we've got 50 per cent in this club that's new. But we've still got 50 per cent that's old and I hate the 50 per cent that's old. 'I'm not hiding that. I've been very open and oppressive. There's people in the club that need to go.' Murray was careful to stress this was not a reflection of ability or character, but of mindset. 'There's people in the group that need to go, not because they're bad players, not because they're bad people, but they're still carrying a mindset of they're used to losing. And that affects confidence, it affects belief.' The Barrow boss, who arrived at Holker Street after guiding Kidderminster Harriers to promotion, admitted losing was an alien experience for him personally. 'I'm not used to losing. I've been very fortunate the last four years. I've won consistently, so this is a new thing for me. I'm not used to losing football matches and I'm not going to make it a habit. 'But unfortunately for some people in the group, it has become a habit and that needs to be removed.' Murray also revealed concerns that positive pre-season form had masked deeper issues, warning that old habits have resurfaced once competitive pressure returned. He said: 'As soon as pressure comes on, all the old habits creep back in from last season. My challenge, if I'm being honest, and something I'm very wary of, is making sure that that doesn't spill into the new players that have come in, because they're not of that mindset.' He issued a clear ultimatum to those affected. 'The balance for me is, I'm saying to the players that were here last season, if you can snap out of that mindset, you can be a part of what we're going to do.
