Barrow AFC twice came from behind to earn a valuable 2-2 draw away to Worthing on Saturday. The point lifts the Bluebirds to 21st in the National League table, with six points from their opening eight matches.
Dom Hutchinson was the hero for Barrow, scoring both goals to cancel out strikes from Ricky Aguiar and Mikey Lane for the hosts. All three of Barrow's midweek signings featured in the matchday squad, with Jordan Young and Charlie Waller starting and Charley Kendall on the bench.
Worthing struck first in the 14th minute when Ricky Aguiar found the net. Barrow responded quickly, with Dom Hutchinson levelling the score just six minutes later. The teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
The second half began with Worthing on the front foot, but Barrow goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom stood firm. He made a key save early in the period to keep his side in the game. Worthing's pressure told eventually, with Mikey Lane putting them back in front.
Barrow's resilience showed again. Dom Hutchinson equalised for a second time in the 58th minute, finishing off a move involving new signing Charley Kendall, who had come on as a substitute. The match opened up in the final half-hour, with both sides creating chances to win it. Winterbottom was called into action again late on, denying Seb Thompson in the 90th minute to preserve the draw.
Manager Adam Hinshelwood integrated his new recruits quickly. "All three of the midweek signings featured in the matchday squad," he said after the game. "It was a real show of character from the lads to come back twice."
The point continues a mixed run of form for Barrow, whose recent results show one win, two draws and two defeats. You can review the full sequence on our fixtures page.
The draw provides a platform ahead of a tough home game next. Barrow host Aldershot Town this Saturday, a side currently sitting sixth in the standings. A look at the standings shows the Bluebirds are 14 points behind leaders Boreham Wood. The squad will be looking to carry the fighting spirit from Woodside Road into that contest at Holker Street.
